HEARTsafe Community

HEARTsafe Communities is a program designed to promote survival from sudden, out-of-hospital, cardiac arrest. It recognizes and stimulates efforts by individual communities to improve their system for preventing sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) from becoming irreversible death. Through the Heartsafe Community program, a community can strengthen what the American Heart Association has called the “chain of survival,” which has five critical steps:

  • Early access to emergency care
  • Early CPR
  • Early Defibrillation
  • Early Advanced Care
  • Post-Cardiac Arrest Care
