 Harper Park Beautification
Project - Tree Planting
   
   
   
23 trees were planted in Harper Park on October 22, 2012.
These trees were funded through a grant from the DTE Energy
Foundation Tree Planting Grant Program through the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

 Vassar Dam Removal in the Cass River

     
The City of Vassar has entered into an engineering service agreement with Spicer Engineering for this project. On 11/27/2012 a site visit was held with MDEQ staff members as a preliminary step in applying for required permits.

Grant funding has been secured from the following sources for this project:
     U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program: $25,000
     Saginaw Bay Watershed Initiative Network: $25,000
     Tuscola County Community Foundation: $2,500 (Janks Fund)

Grant funding requests have been submitted to the following sources for this project:
     Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Dam Management Grant: $40,300
     Laura Jane Musser Fund: $25,000

The City of Vassar is very appreciative of the agencies and groups that have committed funds to complete this project. An additional thank you has to be extended to the Cass River Greenway Committee and their commitment to improving the Cass River.
